Past Encore Hokie Talk Presentations

SUNDAY, MARCH 8, 2020 at 2-3:30 p.m. at Old Bust Head Brewery, Vint Hill

MANY THANKS to Robin White, Assistant Professor, Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences, Virginia Tech

presented Livestock at the Intersection of Sustainability and Technology

Are you concerned about the impact your dietary choices might have on the environment? Do you get frustrated with the conflicting and confusing food labels? Dr. White reviews the science-based information evaluating the environmental impact of animal-source foods and talks about why conflicting information exists. The talk will review the historical trends in environmental impact of animal-source foods, the role they play today both domestically and internationally, and discuss how integrating technology into this industry can help enhance sustainability.

Saturday, February 26, 2019 at 1 pm we welcomed Matthew Gabriele, Professor and Chair of the Dept. of Religion and Culture, to share his ideas on how The Game of Thrones has picked up subtle ways women gain power in patriarchal cultures, as well as misconceptions about the Middle Ages from 19th and 20th century culture, not historical events. It was open to friends, family and alumni of all ages. Thank you to Prof. Gabriele and his wife for making their first trip to Fauquier County. And many thanks to Old Bust Head for the great beer and root beer.

Saturday, Jan 20, 2018 at 3 pm we welcomed Dr. David Goldsmith at Old Bust Head Brewery in Vint Hill for his presentation: Constructing the Future: How we are using robots, drones, 700 mph trains.
